Dance Classroom Etiquette

Courtesy, respect and positive behavior are expected at all times by students, staff and family members. Profanity, poor sportsmanship, or negative discussions will not be tolerated by students or parents.

Attendance / Makeup Policy

Being on time for class teaches children responsibility and shows respect for classmates and teachers. Students arriving more than 10 minutes late to class will not be permitted to join. Three (3) tardies are considered one absence. This absence is not subject to any credits or make up classes.

You are required to call the studio if your student will be absent. If classes are cancelled due to in-climate weather, a recorded message will be left on the studio’s voicemail and will be announced on Facebook by 2 pm. No credits or refunds will be issued, however the absence or snow day may be “made up” according to our missed class makeup policy.

Absences or weather closings may be made up by attending another class in the student’s same level within two weeks of the absence or weather closing. There will be no makeup classes allowed after April 1 due to Spring Concert preparations. More than two absences after April 1st may result in non-participation in the Spring Concert.

Class Withdrawal

Students may withdraw from any or all classes at any time by providing WRITTEN authorization to the office. Payment for all classes taken is due at time of cancellation. If written notice is NOT received, the student will still be enrolled and payment will be expected according to payment procedures. No refunds will be issued.

Spring Concert costumes will be ordered for each student enrolled before November 1st, unless the office is notified otherwise. After December 1st, you will be responsible in full for costume fees. Costumes are ordered six month prior to the concert, and are non-refundable by their manufacturers.

Curtain Call reserves the right to cancel any class due to insufficient registration. A full refund will be offered in the event Curtain Call cancels a class permanently.

Required Dress Code

Ballet: Students are required to wear a black leotard with pink tights. Chiffon skirts are acceptable. Cover-ups should be snug fitting and must be removed after warm-up. Ballet shoes with leather soles required (no bedroom slippers). Hair must be worn in a bun. No bare legs or visible undergarments.

Jazz/Tap/Modern/Musical Theater: Students are required to wear form-fitting dancewear such as jazz pants, fitted dance shirts and leotards. Tights or jazz pants are required. Bare legs, gauchos and jeans are not allowed. See the front office or instructor for specific requirements.

Hip-Hop: A more “urban” look is accepted in the hip-hop classes. Hoodies, t-shirts, sweatpants and hats are acceptable. Shorts must be knee-length. Sneakers worn for dance only are required. No jeans or street shoes allowed.

Hair Requirements: Long hair must be in a ponytail, braid, or bun. Short hair can be worn with the sides pulled up in a barrette or clips. Please secure with the necessary bobby pins, nets and hair spray. It is important that the dancer’s hair be snug and secure enough not to fall out on turns and leaps. Boys must follow the same hair guidelines if hair is worn long.

Specific to Boys: Males students are expected to wear a fitted t-shirt (preferably white) and nylon or cotton shorts (knee length) or pants (preferably black). No jeans allowed.

Please note: Teachers reserve the right to excuse a student from class for inappropriate attire or to re-secure their hair. Please make sure your dancer is dressed properly each week.
